DESCRIPTION

Armaan as the title suggests is a film about individual hopes and dreams, and the extend to which a son goes to fulfill his father’s dream. The story is set against the Backdrop of a hospital, owned by Dr.Sinha-a Philanthropist, who refuses to grow either cynical or indifferent, despite having to struggle with the harsh reality of each and disease, daily. His dream remains to run a state-of-the-art hospital in which patients my be given indiscriminate treatement. Akash, his son is an equally devoted doctor, who remains duty-bound to both his profession and his fatther. Enter Soniya Kapoor, a rich, arrogant young woman, who is used to getting things done her way. Beneath her veneer of defensive sensitivity however, is an individual who has shades of compassion. However, since Soniya believes that no one can ever truly love her for who she is, she decides that since Akash is the man for her, she can latch on to him by literally ‘buying’ his love, through a financial agreement. The agreement states that on marrying Soniya, her father Gulshan will help finance the hospital project. Aakash is thus faced with an emotional dilemma in which he is forced to choose between his love her fellow doctor, Neha and his duty towards fulfilling his father’s dream. The Story leads to an unusual climax, in which each of characters are forced to tread the fine line between extremes of duty, devotion and finally even emotional sanity. However, there is a resolution in which difficult choices must be made, keeping in mind everyone’s best interests. “Armaan” is a family drama that allows one to explore the intricacy of human relationships and exposes the vulnerability of individuals in those relationships and the choices made by them. |

Review Message All I will say about this one is, Preity Zinta is the show stealer. She gives her best performance with every new release. Every film that comes out has her getting better and better. If there was a way to improve on perfection, Preity Zinta keeps doing it. She is such a treat to watch, no matter who I talk to, everone loves Preity Zinta. No one ever has anything bad to say about her, which is very rare for Actors. Only the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar get that kind of respect. But Preity is already on her way, which speaks volumes for her, both as an actress and as a human being.

Armaan is a film which is very different from conventional hindi films. It has a complex story, although the story could have been better, at part it seems as though the writer was lost and just wrote the first thing he/she thought of. Amitabh Bachchan is excellent, although his part should have been bigger, he leaves you wanting more. Anil Kapoor is excellent and he dots all the I's and crosses all the T's in this performance. Randhir Kapoor is annoying at time. Gracy Singh is alright, but she lacks the charm and presence required for the big screen. Overall, the film is worth a look, but it will depend on your taste, you may like it or you may not. But its worth watching just to see Preity Zinta perform. No, she's not my favourite, in case you were wondering, but she's a treat to watch!!
